Date & Time
As a scholar and musician Stephen Sanfillippo has spent many hours looking into the lives of whalers who were sometimes at sea for years at a time and looked to music and poetry to enrich the hours between whale sightings. He has read the journals in which they recorded the loneliness, romance and drama of life at sea. Focusing on whalemen who sailed out of Sag Harbor and Greenport, he will share what he has read in their journals, sing some of their songs and recite some of the poetry that reveals another side of these courageous adventurers. Co-sponsored by the Southampton Historical Museum and Rogers Memorial Library.
