Description

Please join us at a special Long Island Town Hall Forum on Mental Illness titled, "Asking the Right Questions, Exploring New Solutions" to be held at the Hilton Long Island in Melville.

We are honored that Bob Detor, CEO of South Oaks Hospital, a member of the North Shore/LIJ Health System, has agreed to serve as our moderator.  While we are still finalizing our panelists, confirmed so far are:
Dr. Ann Sullivan, Commissioner, New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH)
Harvey Rosenthal, Executive Director, New York Association of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services (NYAPRS)
Dr. Ramin Parsey, Chief of Psychiatry, Stony Brook University Medicine
Hon. Vincent DeMarco, Suffolk County Sheriff

We expect the forum to address stigma and other pressing public mental health issues such as:
Lessons learned from Sandy Hook: The myths and realities of violence...and are there better prevention and early intervention responses?
The role of government in assuring access to services.
Non-violent people with mental illnesses in our jails, and other trans-institutionalization matters.
Dual and triple "crossovers": How should we handle the complex client?
Integration of primary health and mental health care. What is really achievable and at what cost?

Continental breakfast and registration: 8:30 AM
Event: 9:00-11:15 AM
