Description

The traditional holiday Lighting of the Windmill will take place Friday, December 4, 2015, from 5-7 pm on the Stony Brook Southampton campus. Join the Stony Brook Southampton community as we celebrate the iconic Windmill with special guests in the Chancellors Hall lobby before the official lighting. Bring the kids for holiday treats, Mr. Twisty's famous balloon twisting, a holiday themed photo booth, hot chocolate and lots more. Music will be provided by the Southampton Brass Quartet.

Constructed in the early 1700s, the windmill has been a fixture on the Southampton campus since it opened in 1963. The windmill has been designated a National Literary Landmark, based on playwright Tennessee Williams (1911-1983) having lived there during the summer of 1957 while he was writing his experimental play, “The Day on Which a Man Dies,” in response to the death of his friend Jackson Pollock the summer before.

Admission to the Windmill Lighting is free and open to the public.
