"Winter Storm Warning" ...Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 7 PM this evening to 6 PM EST Monday... * locations...the New York City and New Jersey metropolitan areas...northern Nassau and northwest Suffolk counties...and southeastern coastal Connecticut. * Hazard types...snow...sleet and freezing rain. * Accumulations...snow accumulation of 2 to 5 inches...along with 1 to 2 tenths of an inch of ice. Highest snow and ice amounts will be across northern portions of the New York City and New Jersey Metro and northern portions of Long Island. * Timing...tonight through Monday. Heavy snow late tonight into early Monday morning...changing to heavy rain and/or freezing rain...then changing back to a wintry mix in the afternoon. Snowfall range could be 1 to 2 inches higher or lower based on timing of changeover in the morning. * Winds...east winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph in the morning. Northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph late Monday. * Temperatures...in the lower 30s. * Visibilities...one quarter mile or less at times late tonight into early Monday morning. * Snowfall rates...occasionally 1 to 2 inches per hour late Sunday night into early Monday morning. * Impacts...hazardous travel due to reduced visibilities and significant snow and ice accumulations for the early Monday morning commute. Untreated roadways will likely become icy for the Monday evening commute. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. Largest Family Festival Takes Place

Columbus Day Weekend

 

The 19th Annual Long Island Fall Festival, the area’s most anticipated community event will take place during Columbus Day weekend.  This spectacular festival, held on the 25 acres of Heckscher Park in Huntington, New York, will feature fun-filled festivities for the whole family with hundreds of attractions, global cuisine, a world-class carnival, over 300 vendors and 4 days of live performances.   The festivities begin Friday, October 5th from 3 - 10 pm.  The festival continues on Saturday, October 6th and Sunday, October 7th from 11 am-10 pm (carnival, music and park food court will remain open until 10pm) and Monday, October 8th from 11am-5pm (carnival, in-park vendors and food court only).  

 

To get to the Fall Festival is easy -- If you are driving, there is FREE parking at the Huntington Train Station with shuttle service to and from the festival on Saturday and Sunday, 11am to 6 pm. The shuttle will include a stop in Huntington Village so that everyone can take advantage of the shops and restaurants with many places offering special discounts.  The fee for a round-trip shuttle ride is $1.00.
