The combination of strong northwest winds and a drying air mass will result in conditions favorable for the rapid spread of brush fires...especially this afternoon. If you spot a fire or smoke plume...please report it to the authorities immediately. , "Fire Weather Watch" ...Fire Weather Watch remains in effect from Thursday morning through Thursday evening for high winds and low relative humidity for the entire tri-state region... * affected area...the entire tri-state region. * Winds...northwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. * Relative humidity...as low as 18 percent. * Timing...late Thursday morning through Thursday evening. * Impacts...rapid fire spread possible if ignition occurs. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur. Description

On Sunday, October 14, local residents will join together for The Lustgarten Foundation’s 12th annual Long Island Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk, which will be held at Jones Beach in Wantagh, Long Island. Walkers can participate in a one- or three-mile walk along Jones Beach’s scenic boardwalk.

Since its inception, the Long Island walk has grown to more than 6,000 participants and raised more than $8.2 million for promising research. And because of Cablevision’s support of The Lustgarten Foundation, 100 percent of every dollar raised goes directly to pancreatic cancer research aimed at early detection, better treatments, and ultimately, a cure.
