Description

The renowned Lynch Ballet Company of Huntington, NY will celebrate its sixth anniversary with an enchanting production of Don Quixote, featuring 120 Lynch School of Ballet dancers, and choreographed by Alexander Dutko, formerly of Miami City Ballet.  Sharing the roles of Basilio and Espada will be Alfredo Solivan, of Dance Theatre of Harlem and Samuel Rodriguez, from American Ballet Theatre’s (ABT’s) Studio Company. Lynch Ballet Company’s Alexandra Smith and Caroline Tonks, both sophomores at Huntington High School, will share the role of Kitri.  Tonks has attended the highly competitive Pacific Northwest Ballet’s summer intensive in each of the last four years, and Smith has won ABT’s prestigious National Training Scholarship for two years in a row.

This carefree classic premiered in December 1869 in Moscow, Russia and was originally choreographed by Marius Petipa, with a score by Ludwig Minkus. Cervantes’ famous character, Don Quixote wanders in search of his dream girl, Dulcinea.  He traipses into the beautiful Kitri’s romantic drama, between the dashing barber Basilio, and her father’s wish for her to marry the rich old fool, Gamache.  Lynch Ballet Company’s Spring 2015 production with tambourines and fans wielded only as gifted dancers can, spectacular professional sets displaying Kitri and Basilio’s adventures through Don Quixote’s eyes, and lavish costumes by Madeline Hinkis, former costume mistress for ABT II promises to wow audiences of all ages!

About the production, Lynch Ballet founder and Artistic Director, Karen Lynch says, “The dancers have worked very hard to capture the Spanish flavor of the street scenes and complex footwork.  This combined with the caliber of sets and costumes make for an impressive professional production for dancers in this age group.”

Performances will take place at Huntington High School, in Huntington NY on Saturday May 30, 2015 at 6:00PM and Sunday May 31, 2015 at 3:00 PM.  Tickets are $25 for Adults and $20 for Children.  To purchase, call 631-470-9711.
