Library Friends Sponsor Free Dramatic Reading “O. Henry’s Christmas Gift”
Celebrate the great American humorist William Sydney Porter, known by his pen name O. Henry! Actors David Houston and Diana Heinlein will perform a free one-hour dramatic reading of “O. Henry’s Christmas Gift” at 2:00pm on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at the Garden City Public Library located at 60 Seventh St., in Garden City. The script adaptation is by David Houston. This show will be presented in the style of a radio drama with sound effects and Scott Joplin’s ragtime music that epitomizes the popular sound of O. Henry’s day. Be entertained by three witty parables: The Cop and the Anthem – music points the way to a better life for a homeless man; Christmas By Injunction – a gold-mining town’s plot to benefit an unlikely Santa with an unlikely problem who receives an unlikely gift the town never counted on; The Gift of the Magi – a touching and immortal lesson in the power of gift-giving.
This public program is funded by Friends of the Library. Garden City residents will be given priority by presenting your GCPL card at the program room door. Non-residents will be accommodated on a space available basis 10 minutes before showtime. No saved seats. Please, no busses. For directions phone: (516) 742–8405 or go to www.gardencitypl.org.
