The Greater Uniondale Area Action Coalition (GUAAC). GUAAC brings together members from 26 different local not-for-profit organizations in Uniondale.
Why is this protest taking place? The “East Garden City” issue. Uniondale's identity and commercial tax base is being eroded and damaged by developers and other stakeholders by calling areas north of Hempstead Turnpike ‘East Garden City’. This will negatively affect taxes and divide the town up, harming Uniondale. The big businesses of the builders and the realtors have illegally decided to push to change border/town names in order to secure higher rents. These illegal actions will ultimately create economic exclusion in Uniondale. All attempts to legitimize the non-legal naming and enlarge it must stop now.
