Kathleen Flaherty, a member of Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy's Sandy Hook Advisory Commission, will speak about her experiences with the Commission and her perspectives on their findings and the national debate that followed.
Ms. Flaherty is an attorney and currently serves as Associate Executive Director of the Connecticut Legal Rights Project. She has also been open about her experiences with bi-polar disorder and depression and how these experiences shaped her voice and contributed to the recommendations of the Commission around mental health policy emanating from the horrific shooting of 26 school children.
Ms. Flaherty's presentation will be as a part of the New York Association of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services (NYAPRS) regional membership meeting. However, admission is open to the public and free thanks to the support of the two major sponsors of Mental Health Awareness Week: South Oaks Hospital of North Shore/LIJ Health Systems, and Concern for Independent Living.
