Eminent boxing historian Mike Silver, is the author of the new book "Stars in the Ring: Jewish Champions in the Golden Age of Boxing," and he will discuss an era when boxers named "Slapsie Maxie" Rosenbloom, Leach "The Fighting Dentist" Cross, Ruby "The Jewel of the Ghetto" Goldstein, Joe "The Pride of the Bowery" Bernstein and hundreds of other fabulous Jewish boxers literally fought their way out of poverty to become instant heroes to a generation of immigrants struggling to break out of poverty and enter the American mainstream.
