Walk Leader: Crystal Oakes, South Fork Natural History Museum (SoFo) Nature Educator
Join Crystal for a beginning birding exploration of Dune Road in Hampton Bays. We’ll be looking over the ocean, across the bay, and into the salt marshes searching for our breeding or visiting summer birds. We’ll be looking for herons, egrets, Black Skimmers, plovers, sandpipers, American Oystercatchers, gulls, terns, elusive rails, blackbirds, swallows, sparrows, and Osprey. Crystal will help you learn what features to look for to help you identify what group the birds belong to and which field marks and behaviors help “give away” which specific bird you are looking at. Please bring your favorite binoculars and a field guide to birds of the eastern United States. We do have some binoculars for you to borrow—please let us know if you need a pair when you sign up.
Advance reservations are required for all events. For more information, reservations, and directions to meeting places, please call: (631) 537-9735.
