In Motherf**ker with the Hat, Stephen Adly Guirgis has created a brazen, hilariously funny play that earned six Tony Award nominations, including one for Best Play, when it opened on Broadway in 2011. The story revolves around Jackie, an alcoholic and petty drug dealer just out of prison. Determined to create a healthy new life for himself, he's found a job, he's on the path to full recovery, and he's home to celebrate with his woman, Veronica. Yeah, he's the man now. He can get career advancement. He sees a bright, sober future with income, and he also sees...a hat. Some other man's hat. Right there. On the table. His table. His bed. Opens April 16. Directed by Jeff Bennett with Associate Director Vicki Milach. Produced by Lee Kurfist.
CAUTION!
The characters in this play fight hard to find love and friendship--much like the rest of us--but they express themselves in the rawest of language, since that, after all, is the culture they grew up in. In other words, as the author put it: "This play has a lot of curse words. But in between the colorful expletives, it's my hope that you'll see the characters as interesting, human, and pretty funny."
