Description

The 40thAnnual Shelter Island 10K/5K Run/Walk, a USA track and field certified course, will be held on Saturday, June 15th, 2019 at 5:30 p.m.  Touted as the most scenic course by Runner’s World Magazine, the Shelter Island Run is a fundraising event for East End Charities. In honor of the 40 year celebration, this year’s race will welcome former Olympians Benji Durden and Kyle Heffner. Benji and Kyle both competed on the 1980 Olympic team, which was the same year the Shelter Island 10K was founded and the year the Olympics were boycotted. Benji and Kyle never competed, so we’ll be determining the winner with a special “Leave it on the Road, Even If It Takes 40 Years” race.  Other former Olympians and running legends will also join us including: four time NYC Marathon winner and four time Boston Marathon winner, Bill Rodgers, Olympic Gold Medal winner and first-ever women's Olympic marathon champion, Joan Benoit Samuelson and running legends Jon Sinclair and Keith Brantley.
