Ready. Set. Ride for Babies!

Bikers Gear Up for Stronger, Healthier Babies in the 10th Annual Dee Snider Ride

Woodbury, NY August 20, 2012 - Dee Snider, the lead singer of the popular heavy metal band Twisted Sister as well as radio personality and actor, will be joined by the March of Dimes for his 10th annual Bikers for Babies Ride at Lido Beach Town Park on Saturday, September 15, 2012.  Snider was also the winning Project Manager on Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice on NBC this past season.  Snider raised $325,000 for the March of Dimes!

The bike ride features over 2,000 motorcyclists who are expected to descend on Nassau County and join Snider, the national spokesman of March of Dimes Bikers for Babies, as he continues his fight against premature birth. Snider has been personally affected by premature birth. Two of his four children were born prematurely, and he wants to raise money so other babies can be born healthy.

“It’s people like Dee, who know too well the fear and uncertainty of having a baby in the newborn intensive care unit, who can do the most to help other families have full-term, healthy babies,” Dr. Jennifer L. Howse, president of March of Dimes, said in a statement.  “Dee is a true champion for all babies and we are blessed to have a volunteer like him. He is both an exceptional March of Dimes volunteer, and a wonderful person. We are thrilled by the generosity of his time and donation. These funds will directly support our mission to give all babies a healthy start in life and our National Prematurity Prevention Campaign.”

The annual ride event begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 15th. Riders will hop on their bikes at 11:00 a.m. for the 60 minute, 45-mile long route.

“I’m honored to be a part of these events and proud of their success in raising funds to fight premature birth,” said Snider, who is a Three Village resident. "The continued generosity of Long Island motorcyclists is amazing!"

Premature birth is the most serious infant health problem in the United States today. It affects more than half a million babies each year nationwide and over 31,000 right here in New York. Babies born too soon are more likely to die or have lifelong disabilities. Funds raised by Bikers for Babies on Long Island help support prenatal wellness programs, research grants, advocacy efforts and a Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Family Support program at Stony Brook University Medical Center, all for stronger, healthier babies.

After riding with the Connecticut Chapter of the March of Dimes for three years, Snider saw a need and created and chaired the event that carries his name, Dee Snider’s Bikers for Babies on Long Island, N.Y. Together with Dee Snider, the March of Dimes hopes to raise money to fulfill its quest of improving the health of babies, preventing birth defects and infant mortality.
