Date & Time
On Saturday, September 14, 2019 the Long Island Sound Study (LISS), in partnership with The WaterFront Center, will host the 2nd annual Estuary Day in Oyster Bay, NY to kick-off National Estuary Week.
Estuary Day — a partnership between the three Long Island Estuary Programs: LISS, Peconic Estuary Program and South Shore Estuary Reserve — is an excellent opportunity for organizations and individuals alike to enjoy and learn about estuaries.
This year’s theme is “Marine Debris” and its impacts on the environment.
During the day, Friends of the Bay, another event partner, will offer a beach clean-up from 8 am to Noon. Additionally, The WaterFront Center will host their Christeen Sail from 2 to 4 pm.
The overall goal for the event is to foster a sense of environmental stewardship and awareness in our community that will help create a clean and sustainable future. We can achieve this with your help, as we’re asking any partners and/or vendors to support our goal of a reduced-waste event by using and distributing, where possible, materials that are sustainable, recyclable and/or reusable. Also, we recommend that our partners who are tabling to please incorporate our marine debris theme into their outreach and promote our reduced waste message.
Please reach out to Michael Ciaramella at New York Sea Grant (mc2544@cornell.edu) if you have any questions.
