"The Runner in Red 5K draws its name from a real-life Boston Marathon legend. In 1951, a group of Canadian runners insisted they saw a woman sneak into the Boston Marathon, which would make her the first woman to run a marathon in America. She “wore red,” but their contention was never proven and thus the “Runner in Red” became part of Boston Marathon legend.
Tom Murphy’s novel offers a search for the mystery runner “in red,” with a love story, family drama and a history of women’s running. Proceeds from the book support our cure lung cancer campaign – see full details on the novel and the cause - click here.
Our goal is to create awareness for our Runner in Red charity campaign to find a cure for lung cancer which takes the lives of more women than any other cancer."
