Three local artists whose work draws connections between nature and the abstract will be showing at Ashawagh Hall on March 24th and 25th. The show will include oils, acrylics, watercolors, fish prints, drawings and photography, highlighting the artists’ recent work.
Phyllis Chillingworth expresses her love of nature in oil paintings and watercolors, focusing on color and movement. Much of her energy comes from being in Montauk. Phyllis is a graduate of the The Institute of Design, IIT, Chicago, and from the Yale School of Art and Architecture. She’ll be having a solo show at Atlantic Gallery in NYC this June. Annie Sessler will be showing her Gyotaku fish prints alongside new charcoal drawings. She is using her printmaking as a launching point for other artistic processes and discoveries. Her familiar work will be intermixed with recent experiments. Annie’s work has been featured in the NY Times and the CBS Morning Show and has appeared in numerous shows in the Hamptons. John Todaro’s photographs have been widely exhibited on the East End, with permanent displays at Southampton Hospital and other locations. He studied with master printer Anthony Nobile, gaining inspiration from Nobile’s studies with Minor White and Paul Caponigro. John believes that a command of the printing process is an essential link to mastering the artform. He’ll be showing recent color and black and white landscapes along with a large display of abstractions. For more info: johntodaro.com
