Description

Calling all Bird Watchers and Urban Nature Enthusiasts….

Experience an adventure uncovering the Audubon Bird Murals of Washington Heights. Walk across the urban landscape of Milliesland, John James Audubon’s country estate 1842-1851. Visit Audubon’s grave in Trinity Cemetery.

Discover the Audubon Bird Murals. Find secret locations where contemporary artists interpreted and painted Audubon’s climate endangered birds throughout Northern Manhattan. Above a subway stop, wrapped around a bodega’s ice cooler and covering the walls of walkups and early twentieth-century apartment buildings.

OH, THE BIRDS YOU’LL FIND…

A yellow-throated warbler, a fish crow or a boat-tailed grackle. Your guide Mary-Beth will share stories and give insights about the birds and the artists inspired to paint the murals. Plus, uncover John James Audubon’s story starting with his illegitimate birth in Haiti.

A FASCINATING EXCURSION

Start to finish, your tour will be approximately 2 hours.
